Strafford County Commissioner

District 1

Government works best when

the public is informed.

Cut through the noise with authoritative political reporting and clear-eyed analysis designed to keep you informed—and ahead.

  • I ask the hard questions.

  • I respect the taxpayers.

  • I prepare and plan.

  • I will keep government open and accessible.

Meet Susan

Hello,

My name is Susan Rice.

I currently serve as a

Rochester City Councilor, Ward 5, Seat A.

I am a candidate for

Strafford County Commissioner, District 1.

My Journey

I grew up in neighboring Rockingham County. I spent hours with my Aunt Harriet on Bow Lake and countless hours working on various 4-H projects at the University of NH. As a teen, I learned early the value of hard work, service and community. I am an Army daughter, Army mother and Marine Corp. wife and a business owner.

After returning to Strafford County more than two decades ago, I built a life rooted in service, community involvement and local government.

What I Believe

Government works best when the public is informed.

I believe in transparency, fiscal responsibility, respectful public engagement and asking hard questions before problems become a crisis. As a Rochester City Councilor, business owner and taxpayer, I bring an independent voice focused on facts, accountability and common sense solutions.

Why I Am Running

For years, I have attended

County Commissioner Meetings,

Delegation Hearings,

Nursing Home Subcommittee Meetings and

Public Budget Discussions.

I am running because I believe taxpayers deserve leaders who ask questions, understand the numbers and remain accountable to the people they serve.

Local-Accountable-Informed

My Goal Is Simple:

LEAVE THIS COUNTY STRONGER THAN I FOUND IT.

Nursing and

Elder Care

Strafford County’s nursing home serves some of our most vulnerable residents.

I will support

  • responsible oversight

  • financial transparency

  • and long-term planning

  • to ensure quality care for residents

Public Safety

and Justice

County government supports :

  • the Sheriff’s Office,

  • House of Corrections

  • Drug Court

  • Other Critical Services

Public Safety requires

  • accountability

  • efficiency,

  • responsible stewardship of tax payers dollars

Fiscal Responsibility

Every dollar spent by county government comes from taxpayers.

I will ask

  • questions,

  • review budgets carefully

  • and work to ensure county resources are used

  • effectively and transparently

I will work to secure grant funding whenever possible.
